The Newburgh Advocate is a hyperlocal site focused on Newburgh, NY.

It is produced by A. Jane Johnston, who can be reached at jane@newburghadvocate.com.

This site began in June of 2006 in response to a SLAPP, a strategic lawsuit against public participation.  Since then it has grown to cover the local government of the City of Newburgh, NY, in addition to regional issues of Orange County, NY.

A. Jane Johnston is a writer, artist and NY State resident. For the past four years her work and research within the community of Newburgh has ignited a passion for citizen journalism and advocacy that promotes transparency and accountability in government and throughout the public sector.

She is the founder of the Newburgh Advocate.  Currently she is working on a documentary project about economic development in NY State, “Who’s Watching,” which is fiscally sponsored by NYFA.
