I was born in Newburgh in 1952 and left in 1969. I left to make a better life for myself,having been the eldest of 8 children, and yes we were poor!!! I recall being scorned by friends, neighbors and sadly even by some relatives. I come back every year so that I will never forget where I came from. I became a productive member of society, I have had a very fulfilling career working for New York State and I retired after 27 years of state service. I spend my time freelancing as a writer, spending time with my children and grandchildren and taking my trips down memory land during my visits to Newburgh I come back to visit newburgh once or twice a year…I walk through my childhood neighborhoods, Downing Park, washington Headquarters and yes, ALWAYS lunch at Pete’s hot dogs!
